Limestone
cliffs as high as 800 feet tower above the Kentucky River as it
snakes through the Bluegrass Region of central Kentucky. Known as
the Palisades, this area supports a large concentration of rare
plants, and its rugged canyons, hidden water-falls, and winding
channels are home to endangered wildlife. Remnants of Civil War
outposts and former Shaker communities still stand along the riverbanks,
an area as rich in history as it is in biological diversity.
Acclaimed
landscape photographer Adam Jones portrays the unique character
of the Palisades, while Richard Taylor's text documents the natural
and human history. Co-published with the Kentucky chapter of The
Nature Conservancy, this book celebrates a vital native habitat
and an important link to the past. (Profits benefit the Kentucky
Nature Conservancy)
