George W. Dean is a lifelong resident of Jessamine County and has represented the Fourth District since 1993. George stays active and involved in the county through his government responsibilities, as well as through numerous civic groups.
George assists the county government through his work on many government committees and boards. He is a member of the Planning and Zoning Advisory Committee, the 911 Communications Advisory Board, Camp Nelson Steering Committee, High Bridge Festival Committee, Ky River Task Force, Jessamine County Transportation Task Force and the Valley View Ferry Authority, He also serves on the Nicholasville- Jessamine County- City of Wilmore Comprehensive Planning Committee. He has served in the past as chairman of the Valley View Ferry Authority, Camp Nelson Foundation, and the Planning & Zoning Ordinance Review Committee. Other Committee and Board assignments in the past have included Nicholasville- Jessamine County Parks and Recreation Board. Animal Shelter Oversight Committee and the Safe House Committee. His work on these committees have included design of an addition to the Animal Shelter, design of buildings at Camp Nelson Heritage Park and planning and development of Riney B. and High Bridge Parks.
As Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Board he oversaw construction of the Skate Park and other improvements at Lake Mingo and Rock Fence Park, Planning and Development of the John Preece Sports Complex, and the acquisition of a $60,000.00 Rails to Trails Grant for Riney B Park. He served as Chairman of the Valley View Ferry Authority from 1995 to 2005, where he worked for and received over $500,000.00 in State and Federal Grants for the renovation of the ferry. He also secured over $125,000.00 in annual funding from the Kentucky Legislature in order to provide free passage for those who use and depend on the ferry for their transportation needs. That funding has since been increased to $150,000.00 and has enabled the ferry to provide service to more than 93,000 vehicles carrying over 150,000 passengers in 2009. (text continues below photo)

Civic group memberships include: Jessamine County Historical and Genealogical Society, Beef Cattle Association, Young Farmers Association, Antique Farm Association, the Jessamine Humane Society and the Jessamine County Habitat for Humanity Board.
George's early political career included 2 terms as Water Commissioner (and eventually Chairman) of Jessamine County Water District #1. George was trained as an Educator at the University of Kentucky, where he graduated in 1975. He currently resides at his farm on Lexington Road.
